Clear blinkers on!

This is gonna be a short and boring update :p I installed the clear blinkers on the Transit yesterday evening!

Here's how it looks like now:

Not much difference, really, but it's still cool to finally rid the Transit of all orange indicators; the colors look a lot more harmonised now :) Sportier rims and wheel spacers shouldn't be too far off, too! If only I can find aftermarket rear lamps for this now....hehehe :)

Tidbits for the Transit

Uncle Kwai returned from China yesterday and brought something along with him:

Clear side blinkers with orange bulbs for the Ford Transit! He previously bought the orange-colored ones by mistake, so here are the clear ones, finally! The Transit now has 2 pairs of spare blinkers, I doubt it'll be useful though, since the original ones have already "survived" 9 years without incident :p Not sure if it will be very noticable, but these new clear blinkers will sure help complete the modern look, gonna install these later :)

Mid-Autumn

Today's the 15th day of the 8th month according to the Lunar Calendar, that's right folks, Mid-Autumn's night, or Mooncake Festival, so it's lanterns galore at my home, as always :)

Lotsa lanterns!! It's a colorful mess :)

We couldn't put up as many lanterns as we'd like this year as Bro isn't around; stuck in Subang, while Sis and Yen had their hands full relighting candles. Nonetheless, it's very fun to light lanterns and we had a good time!

The perfect circle of a moon; it was so bright it lit the whole garden, no lights needed!

Happy Mid-Autumn everyone!! I'm off for a bite of mooncake or two :)

Blackout at home

Immediately after having cendol, I noticed the Transit's starter isn't working again. This problem comes every now and then but it's getting frequent so the van was sent for a check at Kok Weng's after dropping Uncle Leong and family off at Menglembu. Funny thing is, the stupiak starter will work again once we reach the workshop, EVERY SINGLE TIME. It happened once, twice, thrice, and so on. I believe Kok Weng must be thinking that we are high and are imagining things :(

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Kok Weng hard at work, on a rainy Sunday evening! We're troublesome customers :p

Kok Weng couldn't find the cause of the problem as he was short of time; we need the van tomorrow, Chuen Kor will be driving it off to KL tomorrow, so we just had him install a bypass switch for the starter in case it fails again.

Reached home at about 730, to be surrounded in darkness:

Watik said the blackout started around 2pm, so it's been more than 5 hours when I took this pic.

Eerie eh? :)

Ford Transit, seafood, and..... cendol?

Uncle Leong spotted a Transit for sale by the road in Lumut a few weeks back, and he was very interested as he's been searching for a good one lately. He hadn't time to look then and just left his contact with the seller. Anyway, we went for a trip to Lumut and have a look at the Transit along the way. There's nine of us; Dad, Mom, Bro, Sis, me, Uncle & Auntie Leong, Sze Yuen and Aunt Yean Ling.

The seller, Robert, was having "tea" with some friends when we arrived so we waited for about half an hour before he showed up, on a quadbike!

Robert was a funny fellow, couldn't get a good pic of him though; he was busy running around herding the dogs in or looking for tools, trying to open the hood of the Transit, loose cable, I think, happened twice with Dad's Transit too. The guy looked drunk too, bet he was having lotsa booze until we called!

Uncle Leong with the "soon-to-be-his" Transit :)

Dusty, but otherwise nice interior! Everything's intact! Transits have no factory-installed stereo, if you noticed the empty tray slot beside the central air-con vents.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Original Transit passenger seats, very firm, first time I'm seeing these; ours' came without the seats as Dad already had plans for the car before he even bought it. For the first 7 years of it's life our Transit has no original seats in it, Dad and me reinstalled the original front seats last year after we deemed the modified front seats' functionality unnecessary anymore.

95198 kilometers, very good, pretty low for a 1998 van.

Overall, the Transit is in good condition, it only looks fugly and dirty now because it's been exposed to the elements for far too long. It has actually stayed off the road for 3 years+ now, good thing it still starts and runs, didn't notice any fluid leaks either. A few thorough washes and new headlamps will do the trick.
China Ford Transit headlamps, and the facelift :) Robert says the title has been misplaced and he'll contact us as soon as he finds it, so here's hoping, this Transit's definitely a winner. It's difficult to find a nice one nowadays, since most Transits in Malaysia are used as commercial vehicles and are poorly maintained.

We had seafood lunch at a restaurant we used to frequent after that. Then I drove us all to Sitiawan for cendol as per Uncle Leong's recommendation. It's just in front of the Hindu temple beside The Store. The cendol seller had a huge impression on me. Why? Well, just look at how he dresses:
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
So pro!!! Way to go dude! You put all those hawker uncles with dirty and raggy clothes to shame! Seeing him makes it worth half the effort driving all the way to this stall. Not to mention his cendol is good too!! Don't go for cendol at the aunty's stall on the other side of the temple's entrance, not unless you like your cendol salty, anyway. Yea, you'll see substantially more customers there (weird eh? Maybe Sitiawan people like their cendol salty :p) but the cendol at this handsome dude's stall tastes better, he was gracious enough and allowed us to buy and have the aunty's cendol at his stall too, nice guy! That, and the aunty doesn't dress anywhere as smart as this dude!!

Bali, day three

I woke up early today and went out for a walk, taking pictures around the resort. It's a beautiful morning, the clouds are scattered, at last, and the breeze is strong.

Since we will be leaving for Jakarta later in the evening, we stayed in and enjoyed ourselves around the resort for the day.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Breakfast, farm eggs we bought during our trip the day before. Simple, nutritious and delicious. It couldn't get any better from this eh? A little bacon would be great though, and milk... and orange juice... and sausages.... and corn flakes... and beef...and.....*goes on till supper*

We were advised against swimming in the beach here due to strong undercurrents, it's a pity, really, but that's the only shortcoming of the resort I could think of, so we just swam in the pool and took a walk by the beach afterwards. Try napping on the rocks, it's refreshing!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The rocks here are very smooth, the smaller ones, when wet, looks deliciously like coffee beans!!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Lunch is at the resort restaurant today. GOOD FOOD! Thankfully!!!!
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
No, by good food I didn't mean this.

It's this:
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Or so I thought. My tuna with cheese and macaroni, the texture is awfully chunky and the taste didn't really blend in. It was the same with the fish and chips Sis ordered later, chunky and bland. No wonder they use it all in sandwiches. Tuna's only good for sandwiches, keep that in mind.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Mom's order of pizza, Y-U-M-M-Y!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Dad ordered spicy rice again, different variation this time.

I lounged around and took a long nap by the beach. The breeze is really cool here, and it awakened me later :p My godparents and our friends arrived at about 4pm, they'll be staying here for the remaining 3 days in our suite while we are off to Jakarta, booking's for 7 days, minimum, here, hence the arrangement.

The first thing they did when they arrived? Pull out the liquor and start drinking!!!

Oh, while we were leaving the resort, I managed to take a pic of Lynn and Nick, friends we made during our second night here, over whisky and beer by the poolside :) After that, we bade farewell and set off for Denpasar airport, towards Jakarta!!

Bali, day two

It's the second day, and we decided to head out and explore Bali Island. We sought the services of a guide we met in Candidasa the evening before, Wayan, to bring us around Bali the next day. He's actually the owner of the warung with terrible food, and he's also the one who drove us home after dinner, he's a nice and fun chap though. Awfully hardworking too.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Stopping for fuel before setting off... Our ride's the reddish Daihatsu Taruna, comfier than what I expected :)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
And guess what? Petrol stations here use these charming old fire extinguishers on wheels!! This is the largest one I've seen, about 5 feet tall and 1 1/2 feet in diameter! Cool eh! These will make lovely companions with our postboxes!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Fields, lots of em, they litter the landscape of Candidasa, makes it all the more nicer :)

We stopped at a store selling silverware and accesories, but those ain't interesting, the entrance is!
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
How majestic..

Next on, an art gallery:
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The works are nice, no doubt, Mom liked some a lot, but it's all very pricey so we left empty handed :p

And off we head to a sculpture store:
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
There are so many sculptures here, they line the sides just like trees in a forest, you can't really appreciate the sculptures properly unless you pay a lot of attention.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Lucky guy, ain't he? :p

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Nice, and good enough to make the weak at heart pee at night

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Very very very majestic and royal looking Barong statues at the entrance

We finally reached our intended destination at around 3pm, the volcano! I forgot what's the name though. Had lunch at a buffet-style restaurant with a nice view of the volcano. They even hand out cologne towels for your refreshment at the entrance, how thoughtful!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
This is where we wanted to sit; you can enjoy the view, the mist and food all it once, sadly, it was packed when we arrived and we had to make do sitting inside , around boring round tables :(

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The volcano, looks like any other mountain to me, not much to see, really

On our way back, we stopped at the tea plantation; they grow cocoa and all sorta stuff that make good tea here!
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
We tried coffee, Lemongrass tea, Bali coffee and cocoa. Then there's Cardamon and some other tea too, I liked Cardamon and Lemongrass a lot, really refreshing stuff.

Stopping for souveneirs:

Cute!

More statues at another store:

How beautiful...

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The uncle says "Watcha looking at?! You can kiss my ass!!"

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
"No no no no no, let's not be rude now..."

It was getting dark then and we had dinner at a seafood restaurant, food sucks and is expensive, ugh. Super expensive, totally not worth it. No good at all, BAH!!

On the way back, something bad happened, I was attacked by a very stupiak dog while we stopped at a grocery store for supplies. The bugger freakin clawed 3 big holes at the back of my bought-at-YikFoong-ciplak-BathingApe T-shirt!!!!! The dog was lucky it's master came out to hold it back, if not I would have introduced it to my nice shoes! Gah, at any rate, it was lucky I wasn't bitten, or I would have kicked the stupiak dog anyway, master here or not irregardless.

Well, that didn't spoil my day, it was another long, but beautiful day! :)

My Bali Experience, day one

I finally did it! At first I thought I'm never gonna get my lazy ass around to post pics from my Bali trip, but with assignments and work out of the way, I'm actually in the mood to post now! I took lotsa pics that I wanna share, so I'll be separating it all into different posts to make it easier for kindly visitors :)

18th August, arrived at Depasar airport around 8 at night, we hired a cab to take us to the resort, it's in Candidasa, about an hour's drive away so we had dinner at KFC on the way. I'm surprised, Bali time is actually the same with Malaysia!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The view from our suite entrance, nice eh? I just stand at the door and there I have the pool, jacuzzi, beach, and library in front of me, the restaurant's just around the corner. It's the best suite in the whole resort, how lucky!!

Bali calendar making, this guys' very skilled, and he's a nice chap too!

After lunch and watching the guy make calendars, we set out for walks around the village at about 5pm. Candidasa is a nice place; it's a secluded village and there aren't too many tourists around, so you'll feel at ease and need not worry about bombs! The sights are great too. Also notable are the locals; people here are generally very, very cheerful and friendly, you see smiling faces everywhere. It's very hard to be pissed off here, even when we've been overcharged for a ride in one of the local taxi-vans :) The atmosphere in Candidasa is really soothing. I love this place!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Around Bali, orange-colored walls and grey decor details seem to be the trend; you see a lot of buildings such as this one around, not complaining though, I find it rather simple and tasteful! Definitely way better compared to how the Chinese and Indians here like to throw all available colors from the ICI palette on their sculptures!!

The sky darkens early here, starts darkening about 6pm and all dark by 7. We had dinner at one of the many warungs by the road, the food and drinks sucked big time; the meat's bland and tasteless, the drinks are thin and there's powdery stuff in my coffee, eugh. It's all Dad's fault! He was lured by the cheap beer, really cheap! How does RM4 for a large bottle sound? Oh, and they provide us with free transport back to the resort after dinner too. Top that! When we returned to the resort, there's a BBQ thingy going on, as well as a Barong dance performance, didn't enjoy the show though, it was terribly boring :p

Barong dance, it's about as interesting as waiting for traffic lights to turn green.
